The Derby GP Specialty Training Programme is a well-established friendly and
progressive training scheme. The scheme has now been in existence for
over 25 years and continues to attract high quality candidates and to
produce excellent young principals at the end of the three-year period.
The Scheme is mainly based in the two university-linked hospitals
(Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and the Derby City General Hospital) that
form Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The psychiatric posts are
part of Derbyshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust with wards at the
Derby City General Hospital. We have a variety of training practices in
the city and surrounding area ( see training practices link button).
Graduates of the scheme have had a very high rate of success at the old
MRCGP exam. The impressive results are due to the efforts, not only of
the Registrars, but also those of a very dedicated and enthusiastic team
of Programme Directors, Trainers and Administration team.
The Derby GP Specialty Training Programme not only strives to make the scheme highly educational but
also enjoyable.
The structure of the rest of the scheme is as follows:
For applicants wanting to complete the full scheme.
The scheme is composed of 20 months spent in General Practice, four
months blocks in Years 1 & 2 with a final 12 months in Year 3. The
remaining 16 months is spent in four months hospital posts. The hospital
appointments are at ST 1 & 2 level, contracted to the hospital Trust.
Registrars will be under contract to the appropriate practices during
their general practice attachment.
For applicants wanting to undertake flexible (part-time) training.
